Power Beats Pro 2 – HRM User Studies

Overview

Two user studies were conducted to evaluate the Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) functionality in Power Beats Pro 2:

HRM Feature Education Study (with the UX/UI team)

Focused on setup, feature discovery, and notification engagement to improve usability and user experience.

HRM Performance Study (with the Core Technology team)

Evaluated HRM accuracy and real-world usage by comparing Power Beats Pro 2 data against a chest strap monitor.

Study Goals

Improve onboarding and feature accessibility for HRM in Power Beats Pro 2.

Assess touch interface usability and Bluetooth settings exploration.

Evaluate user engagement with workout-related notifications (before/after workouts).

Validate HRM performance by benchmarking against a chest strap in controlled conditions.

Methodology

HRM Feature Education Study (UX/UI Team)

Participants: Internal employees

Focus Areas: First-time setup experience

Tips notification engagement before/after workouts

Bluetooth settings exploration for HRM discovery

Process

Conducted usability testing in a simulated home environment.

Captured real-time interactions via video recordings and subjective assessments.

Identified natural vs. prescribed user interactions with the touch interface.

HRM Performance Study (Core Technology Team)

Participants: Internal employees

Testing Environment: Conducted in a Fitness Lab

Procedure

Strap on chest strap (as a control) and ensure connectivity with the watch.

Simulated Workout Sequence:

5 min sitting, 5 min walking on Peloton, 5 min running on Peloton

Data Collection

HRM data from Power Beats Pro 2 compared to chest strap readings.

Downloaded and analyzed using a Data Plot Graph.

Uploaded results to a Box folder for further review.
